Bloobox: Making Recycling a Daily Habit

In March, the National Environment Agency of Singapore (NEA) started distributing free home recycling boxes from vending machines at more than 140 locations. On the day of the launching ceremony, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr. Amy Khor, encouraged residents to set up a recycling corner at home and learn to recycle correctly. Tzu Chi volunteers also promoted correct recycling through a card game at the site on the event day.

Recycling, are you doing it right?

Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Dr. Amy Khor: We want to encourage you to put this in your home and start a recycling corner. And the Bloobox also tells what can or cannot be recycled, so you know, you’ll recycle right.

Tzu Chi volunteer Chong Kim Hong: Singapore has excellent environmental protection facilities, and we have been working with the government to promote how to recycle correctly. We hope that residents can make good use of government resources, and we will continue to strengthen the education part.

When they came to the “Ten Fingers Mnemonic,” the children unknowingly raised their fingers and started reciting along and strengthened their memory with the card game. The kids had fun while their parents learned something too.

Resident Raja Kaweli

We can separate the waste, which is reusable, and which is not reusable, or we can throw it away. I learned many things.

Resident Staci: If we can recycle, it will reduce environmental pollution and create blessing for humanity.

Resident Tan Jing Ge: I think it is important because the weather will be hot if we don't go green.

Having a recycling box at home not only enables us to do the sorting from time to time, but more importantly, it reminds us to reduce over-buying or overconsumption to avoid wastage.
